Mrs. Nicole Simmons was chosen as the Faculty Focus Friday employee for middle schools. Mrs. Simmons is a science teacher at Dartmouth Middle School. She does way more than just “teach Science”. She is also the Technology Lead integrating the use of technology in all classrooms, she assists aides in creating science lessons for the District, and has written and received numerous donations and grants to improve the services at Dartmouth. This year, Mrs. Simmons began the first STEAM elective class (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) for the school. She gets students to think critically and solve real-world problems, applying science, engineering, and math practices. Right now, students are challenged to create a sustainable urban garden with limited space and resources. She is working with the Master Gardeners of Riverside County and local nurseries to connect the school and community in order to enrich the education of her students. Also, Mrs. Simmons runs a summer STEM camp for girls to teach valuable concepts and hopefully spark their interest in this career field. Thank you Mrs. Simmons for the dedication you show to the students on campus!
