Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Concurrent Enrollment, and Articulated Courses

One of Hemet Unified School District’s (HUSD) main goal is to ensure students leave our schools college and career ready. Through our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), we have implemented a variety of programs and initiatives to help our  students reach this goal.

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are rigorous, college-level classes in a variety of subjects that give students an opportunity to gain the skills and experience colleges recognize. AP classes are weighted semester or year-long courses.

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment (DE) courses allow qualified high school students to earn college and high school credits at the same time. Students can take Dual Enrollment courses in Career Technical Education or as an alternative to Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes. In addition to saving time and money, students participating in the Dual Enrollment program will have an easier transition to college and will be more prepared for the rigors of college level studies once they are finished with high school.

Concurrent Enrollment

The Concurrent Enrollment (CE) program permits high school students to take advanced courses, which give them a jump on their college education. These are regular college courses, and students earn full college credit for their work. Because this is a special program, students must meet special requirements, and not all college classes are open to high school students.

Articulated Course

An Articulated Course (AC) is one in which the high school teacher and the college faculty have formally agreed that the high school course outline, syllabus, textbook, mid-term, and/or final exam are comparable to those in a course of the same major at the college and that the final exam score will be used as a credit-by-exam for the comparable college course.
