welcome to Hemet Unified School District transportation van training video my name is April night I'm one of the driver instructors at the transportation the purpose of this video is to give you all the information required by the school district to drive School District vehicles to get started you will be wire to have a California driver license you will also be required to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and obtain a 10-year H6 driver history he will also be required to sign an authorization of release to allow the district to receive on an annual basis your driver history Therefore your authorization to drive the district Vehicles will be made on an annual basis beginning January 1st 2006 you will all be required to join a mandatory drug and alcohol random testing pool the difference between driving a yellow school bus and a district van with students is that the yellow school bus driver is required to have a special certificate to drive more than 9 passengers there for the vans that you will use will be limited to passengers and the driver the first thing that you'll do is check with your side administrator regarding checking out your vehicle you want to make sure you get all the necessary paperwork filled out and find out where you're feeling we'll be for your vehicle when you get your vehicle you'll want to make an overall check of your vehicle's condition your checking all the tires and glass and Hardware making sure it's in good condition all the way around your vehicle you'll make sure there's nothing underneath the vehicle and fluids that would cause a problem for you to take your vehicle you will also be required to check the engine compartment you will be checking all the fluid levels and looking for any obvious defects your vehicle will also be put a first aid kit and fire extinguisher your first aid kit will have an emergency kit inside in this packet are emergency call cards copy of the district policy for insurance and a student accident report you also have a fire extinguisher you want to make sure it's fully arched and in good condition inside your vehicle you want to check all your Hardware your handles your glass your rubber your seats your seatbelts make sure that every miss working when you start your vehicle do you want to check all your warning indicators to make sure all your lights are working you'll want to check all your day to make sure everything is working check your lights your turn signals your four way flashers your horn check your heaters and air conditioners and Ray to make sure everything is in good condition to check your brake pedal by pumping it three or four times making sure it's working when you're driving your vehicle make sure that it's not pulling to left or right you will be documenting all this information on your vehicle inspection on the vehicle inspection report which must be turned in at the end of your trip when you're out there can you need to be a safe defensive driver always look ahead as far as you can see make sure that you're waiting for something to go wrong out there give yourself a space Kush remember in today's world many drivers are very aggressive if you have an aggressive driver out there don't respond with an aggressive response make bird that you remember that your duty is to your passengers and their safety is up most important to the school district and the family the six forms that you will using are available on the district website under transportation make sure you're familiar with all the forms especially the vehicle inspection report and it must be turned in at the end of I remember in the event of an accident first check your passengers and administer first aid call nine-one-one your site administrator and the asportation Department all other emergencies you will also need to notify your site administrator and the transportation department remember your responsibility is to your pass nursed and we want you to have a safe and happy trip
