Athletics Spotlight: Siblings Shine on Fall Varsity Teams

HUSD is known for its close-knit community, where the bonds of family and friendship often extend onto the athletic fields and courts. Siblings across the district have the rare and special opportunity to play together on varsity teams, creating lifelong memories.

 

For Fall 2024 at West Valley High School, the varsity volleyball team boasted an extraordinary lineup with not one, not two, but three sets of siblings! The team had an impressive winning streak, claiming back-to-back tournament victories. During a game on August 26, Coach Shaun Pulsipher made history by placing all six siblings on the court at once, filling every position—a moment that showcased both the family bonds and the team’s unity. At Hemet High, twin brothers Jose and Josiah Nava geared up for an exciting varsity football season. Known for their dedication, the Nava twins exemplify hard work and respect on and off the field.

 

At Tahquitz HS, sisters Reyna and Vanessa Garcia are a force to be reckoned with on the varsity volleyball court. This dynamic duo can be seen together year round; In addition to volleyball, they also play basketball and softball together!

 

At Tahquitz HS, the varsity cheer roster boasts four sets of siblings: Roxanne and Sebastian Trujillo, Sofia and Elijah Yanez, Melissa and Matthew Gumaer, Amaya and Tyree Jenkins. Each of these siblings get to take part in routines together, creating memories that will last a Lifetime!

 

At Western Center Academy, sisters Timera and Jamie Young participate in the varsity Cross Country Program at Tahquitz HS. Their sense of teamwork has made them standout athletes, pushing each other to achieve new personal bests.
