Hemet Unified Reports an Increase in Students Riding the Bus

Hemet Unified School District’s Transportation Department is reporting that the number of students riding the bus has increased by 18.54% from last school year.

The District attributes the increase to a change from a fee-based to a no-cost program, which was instituted at the end of last school year.  Additionally, a half mile extension in the distance a student must live from school in order to be eligible for transportation was instituted.

Staff is excited that more families are taking advantage of what HUSD’s transportation department is offering. “The more students we can get on the bus, the greater chance we have of reaching more students and increasing their academic potential,” said Alexandrea Cass, HUSD’s Public Information Officer.

“There are various studies that show higher student attendance results in higher test scores,” said Dr. Barry L. Kayrell, Superintendent. HUSD’s goal is to give its students the tools and resources they need to succeed. Making school transportation available to more students will be a key element in the increased success of our students.
