LCAP Make an Impact!

Town Hall Meeting Announced

The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) is at the forefront of every educator’s mind. It is a crucial part of Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) which provides for greater flexibility by allowing districts control over how to spend funds in order to improve student success.  The LCAP is a plan that describes the district’s overall goals for the upcoming school year.

Hemet Unified’s LCAP has three main components: all students will graduate from high school college/career ready; all students will read at grade level or above and English Learners will acquire English proficiency in no more than five years; and all schools will have a positive, safe, and engaging climate.

In order for students to graduate from high school college and/or career ready, multiple initiatives were put in place to give students necessary tools to meet this goal. This year 8th-11th graders were encouraged to take the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT) College Prep exam and 12th graders were able to take their Scholastic Assessment Tests (SAT) at no cost. Counselors and other staff members have worked with students to prepare for their tests and their futures outside of high school. 

Staff members created programs to help students read at grade level or above and helps English Learner students acquire English proficiency. Elementary, Middle, and High Schools have received additional support through new positions and programs to help students read at grade level. Elementary schools hired teachers and instructional aides to assist students in a new Reading Intervention Program. This program helps students start at a young age to develop and perfect necessary reading skills that will encourage their educational pathway. 

For schools to have a positive, safe, and engaging climate, multiple programs were put in place to ensure students not only feel safe, but have an active role in improving their schools. Programs like Building Assets, Reducing Risk (BARR), Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), and Peers Leading Usable Skills (PLUS) allow students access to additional support from staff and peers.

Hemet Unified employees have been working tirelessly to create a plan that will have a positive effect on students and their future goals. We have created new positions, expanded and created new programs, and added additional resources to help our students succeed.

We need your help. We are asking community members, parents, and educators to join us on February 24, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. in the Governing Board Room to provide input for the LCAP.
