Cawston Elementary's Red Ribbon Assembly

Staff members at Cawston Elementary School surprised their students with an unforgettable school assembly. On Thursday, October 25, 2016, students were visited by members of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Hemet Police Department, and Hemet Police Department. Students were shown undercover police vehicles and a helicopter, which landed on the field in the middle of the Red Ribbon Week Assembly.

Students and staff members were educated about Officer Enrique Camarena, who was killed in an undercover operation involving drugs. As a result of Officer Camarena’s death, Red Ribbon week was created. The goal of Red Ribbon Week is to inform students at a young age about the effect drugs can have on an individual.

Students thanked the officers for coming to speak to them and pledged they would be drug free. After the assembly, students explored the undercover vehicles as well as the helicopter.

A big thank you to Counselor Aida Sandoval for creating an unforgettable Red Ribbon Week assembly!
