Good Apple Award

Carlos Navarro, Director of State & Federal Programs, would like to honor Stephanie McCravey Cooper, teacher at Jacob Wiens Elementary School.

Stephanie McCravey Cooper joined the HUSD team at Jacob Wiens last school year. In her first year, she developed the Action Teams for Partnerships (ATP) Student Squad which received county recognition for a job well done promoting attendance. She also brought to Jacob Wiens a program called "Ties that Bind" which invites community members and parents on campus to teach children the importance of a professional appearance. Last year, Ms. McCravey Cooper took the lead for our SMARTS Parent Academy. She set up a "signup table" after school, at our school dance, and other school wide functions and encouraged parents to enroll in the academy by giving them a personal invitation and making a positive connection. Her outgoing personality and background in public relations made her SMART Academy one of the most successful in the district.

This year, Ms. McCravey Cooper spearheaded the "Heart & Soil" Garden project with the Home Depot Foundation. Home Depot donated more than $8,000 to the project. Jacob Wiens now has a beautiful outdoor classroom in which students may learn and explore!  Ms. McCravey Cooper goes above and beyond the call of duty and we thank her for her service and dedication to the students and community of Hemet Unified.
