Tahquitz Basketball

Tahquitz High School’s Boys’ Basketball team is continuing their winning record. The Tahquitz team has made a CIF Southern Section appearance eight years in a row, and based on this year’s performance it looks like they will make it again! Coach Smith credits the success of the team to the amount of dedication and hard work they put into every game and practice.

Tahquitz’s team has amazing chemistry and works incredibly well together, and this could be because they have been playing together all four years. “The teams measure of chemistry and familiarity is unmatched,” said Coach Smith. He continued to say that the team knows what is expected of each of them and it has given them a sense of responsibility in the team’s success. He said he doesn’t give speeches before games, because they know what they need to do. This time allows them to motivate themselves, which teaches them the importance of self-reliance. He instills in his athletes the importance of knowing their actions and decisions are what will control the game.

Jordan Williams, the team’s Captain, has done a great job leading the team. “He makes everyone around him play better,” said Smith. He said that Jordan has a unique ability of getting everyone on the court involved in the game and makes them a contributor to the overall success of the team. Williams has played on the Varsity team all four years in high school and is currently being recruited by a handful of colleges.

Tahquitz is currently 18-4 for the season and 6-0 for the Mountain Pass League. They will face the Beaumont Cougars on Wednesday, February 1st. Beaumont, who is in second place in the Mountain Pass League, will host the Titans for what is sure to be a nail-biter. Please visit the Tahquitz High School’s website for game information.
