Short Term Independent Study

• The Governing Board authorizes independent study as an optional alternative instructional strategy for eligible students whose needs may be best met through study outside of the regular classroom setting.

• When requested by a parent/guardian due to an emergency, vacation, or illness, independent study may be used on a short-term basis to ensure that the student is able to maintain academic progress in his/her regular classes.

• With the completion of the assigned curriculum while the student is on short-term independent study the student may earn full daily attendance. 

• The minimum period of time for a short-term independent study request shall be five consecutive school days. The maximum period of time is 20 consecutive school days.
