Sumanta was born in Pennsylvania, and her family moved to Hemet when she was three years old.  Sumanta attended HUSD schools from K-12 and participated in California Girls State, Academic Decathlon, and graduated Hemet High School Class of 1999 as Valedictorian. She attended UCLA where she majored in History while also studying in Pre-Medical courses.  At UCLA, Sumanta enjoyed participating in community service as part of a Co-ed service fraternity, and advocacy as an officer in the Asian Pacific Coalition.  She also served on the Student Fee Advisory Committee, which advises the Chancellor on the allocation of student fees for campus-based services and programs. Directly after college, Sumanta attended Northwestern University to earn a medical degree.  She subsequently completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and at Northwestern in Chicago. After completing training, Sumanta moved with her husband, an ophthalmologist and native of Wisconsin, to Milwaukee where she worked for Medical College of Wisconsin as an Internist and Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency.  In 2013, Sumanta and her husband moved back to Southern California and she worked at UCR School of Medicine.  After becoming a mother to identical twin boys, Sumanta focused her work in Hemet, developing hospitalist and residency programs in the local community hospital.  She currently serves as Chief Academic Officer for KPC Health and Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency at Hemet Global Medical Center.

Sumanta cares deeply about working in the community she grew up in to improve access to health, wellness and education.  She currently serves on the board of directors for Healthy Valley Foundation and Western Science Center.

Sumanta loves spending time with her husband, their twin boys, and her large extended family.  She enjoys reading and dreams of the day when she can share her love of music with her sons and attend concerts with them.
