Gene Hikel taught high school math for 35 years. During his career, he taught all levels of high school math from basic math to pre-calculus. He was the Math Department Chair and published several curriculum guides. He was also the San Diego Teachers Association site representative for many years and served on the negotiating council. He is married and has four wonderful children and three adorable grandchildren.
He retired in 2003 and moved to Hemet in 2006. As a resident of Hemet, he was involved with several community projects. He is a member of the Four Seasons HOA Board of Directors. He helped frame the General plan for the City of Hemet and worked hard to save the Hemet fire department from being outsourced.
He believes it is the responsibility of the Board to provide a culture that supports student learning. They need to insure administrators are encouraging employees to reach their fullest potential. The Board also needs to provide teachers with the support and materials they need for students to meet the standards set by the State and Board.
