HUSD celebrates the recent Board approval and support to hire two additional SROs to serve HUSD. HUSD SROs are sworn officers from the Hemet Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department that serve our schools. Today, I am pleased to share another safety update as part of our new safety update video series. This series launched as a way to keep staff and families in the know regarding District safety efforts. It is important to note that as a school district we are committed to the constant evaluation and improvement of our systems as new technologies and practices emerge. We will not become lacks in our efforts to do what's best for students. In fact, as superintendent ensuring safe learning environment is something that I am personally invested in and consider a top priority. Last month, I shared details regarding the implementation of our new evolve screening system. Already, this state-of-the-art screening systems technology has been a key component in improving our ability to keep our sites safe. This month, I would like to share some exciting news regarding school resource officers. At Hemet Unified we are very proud of our relationship with both the Hemet Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff. These departments work collaboratively with us to assess safety concerns, investigate potential threats, and respond to urgent incidents. Beyond their support as community partners, we are grateful for the vital role they play as school resource officers. A school resource officer or SRO is a sworn officer assigned to a school on a long-term basis trained to perform three major roles: law enforcement officer, law-related counselor, and law related educator. At a recent board meeting the board approved the hiring of two additional school resource officers. Upon hire we will have an SRO assigned to each of HUSD's middle and high schools including our rural schools. We remain thankful for the collaboration of our law enforcement officers from the Hemet Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff's Department. This is a major point of celebration. Our ability to maintain ongoing communication with Hemet PD and Riverside County Sheriff is further strengthened by the presence of SROs at our school sites. Besides engaging in ongoing support throughout the school day, it gives departments better access to school sites so that they can establish familiarity with our campuses and perform drills that better prepare them to handle potential dangers. SROs also meet with school security teams on a regular basis to discuss potential safety concerns at individual School sites. Their presence helps to prevent harm to students and staff and safeguard against dangerous escalation. We are beyond grateful for the vital role that they play in keeping our schools safe. In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about our safety efforts as a school district. When it comes to the safety of our students and staff we feel that we can never be over prepared.
