Western Center Academy Student Receives California Scholarship Federation Scholarship

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and our seniors are beginning to receive their acceptance letters from colleges they’ve applied to. One Western Center Academy senior has received many acceptance letters and has made his choice to attend the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) to pursue his dream of becoming a biomedical engineer.

Joshua Beal has much to be proud of; he has worked tirelessly to put himself in a wonderful position to achieve his goals. He became interested in the field of engineering when he was in middle school, but found a more refined focus when he entered his sophomore year of high school. As a sophomore he took an Advanced Placement (AP) Biology class and his career goals began to take shape. He said this class sparked his interest due to the complexity of the material that was being covered. He plans on receiving his Bachelors of Science degree from UCSD’s Eleanor Roosevelt College in biomedical engineering and then attend graduate school to further his educational knowledge on the subject.

Joshua has been very determined to set himself on the right path. In fact, because of his determination he will be graduating high school with more than 30 college credits. Joshua took advantage of the multiple AP and dual enrollment classes offered at his school site. Aside from his advanced classes, he is also part of the school’s robotics team, The Ducks, which is heading to the World Championships at the end of the month. He’s also the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) member, and an Eagle Scout. His Eagle Scout project was building a vertical hydroponic garden at WCA.

These impressive qualities were definitely a deciding factor to the panel of judges for the California Scholastic Federation (CSF) Seymour Memorial Scholarship. He was one of 10 semi-finalists who were chosen to represent Southern California and then was chosen as the finalist from the final 10. Joshua received a $5,000 scholarship to help with his college expenses.

Congratulations Joshua Beal on your acceptance to UCSD and your CSF Seymour Memorial Scholarship!
