Hemet Unified School District (HUSD) is proud to celebrate two outstanding young artists who were recognized in the 37th Annual Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) Water Conservation Poster Contest.
Out of 8,399 student submissions from across Southern California school districts, two HUSD students were selected as contest winners, an incredible accomplishment that highlights both creativity and a commitment to water conservation.
From Eastern Municipal Water District’s region-wide competition, TK student Zenniyah Walton from Jacob Wiens Elementary School and Kindergarten student Arelyn Guzman from McSweeny Elementary School were among only 11 students selected for recognition.
Zenniyah, a student in Mr. Bradley Ward’s class advanced through multiple levels of judging after her artwork was selected as one of just two submissions sent forward from her school site. Her poster, which focused on the importance of water conservation, earned her recognition during a special awards ceremony held May 12 at the EMWD Board Room.
Arelyn, a kindergarten student in Mrs. Zenia Bonales’ class was also honored as one of the contest’s top winners.
The annual contest encourages elementary students to explore the importance of protecting and conserving water resources through creative expression. Winning entries now advance to the Metropolitan Water District regional competition, where selected artwork may be featured in a future regional calendar distributed throughout Southern California.
Congratulations to both students, their families, teachers, and school communities on this outstanding accomplishment!
