The Academy of Innovation held its STEAM Showcase on May 27 to celebrate the year's efforts around STEAM education for grades K-8 and to be recognized as a RCOE STEM Pathway Partner. The AOI STEAM team has been working in coordination with RCOE to raise the rigor and quality of its program.
Every Wedneday AOI has STEAM activites either for the K-5 students or for the middle school students in grads 6-8. The groups alternate which Wednesdays they are on campus. The activites are hands on and centered on the STEAM themes of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
Over the course of the 2025-2026 school year STEAM activities centered on the solar system, stages of the life cycle, robotics, biological systems, buoyancy, biomes, and Earth Day. High School students from the CTE Education classes assisted, applying what they learned in their classes to help younger students at their various stages of development.
For the showcase, families were able to visit six different classrooms. Two of them had activities for families involving robotics. One of the classrooms was a paper airplane challenge to design a plane for distance and accuracy. The other three classrooms had samples of the activities from throughout the year.
AOI is proud to partner with RCOE and has used STEAM instruction to perk interest while raising writing skills. We look forward to continuing our STEAM Wednesdays next year!
