The Governing Board of the Hemet Unified School District, on nomination by Trustee Jim Smith, has selected John Hill, Teacher at Hemet High School, as the February recipient of the Governing Board Recognition Award.
John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Northern Michigan University in 1980 and his Master’s Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1983. He was hired in September 1980 to teach Business at Hemet High School. For the past 36 years, John has taught a variety of business and computer classes at Hemet High, coached basketball and cross country and is the yearbook advisor.
Dr. Emily Shaw says, “John Hill is one of the most amazing educators I have ever worked with. He doesn't know the meaning of 'no’. Whenever I ask him if he can do something he says, "I'll see what I can do!" and he always exceeds my expectations. John teaches our Dual Enrollment Multi-Media class, Intro to Multi-Media Class, Broadcasting Journalism Class and Yearbook - and that is just in the six periods he teaches. John has been an educator at Hemet High School for 36 years and he truly embodies the term life-long learner. John came to Hemet straight out of Northern Michigan University in the fall of 1980. He was hired as a business education teacher. He said he was asked to teach "some new thing with some of the latest technology called word processing." He thought he would give California a shot for three years and see what happened.” We’re glad he stuck around!
For outstanding performance, professionalism and loyalty to the Hemet Unified School District, Trustee Jim Smith presented John Hill with the Governing Board Recognition of Excellence Award and a $500 certificate to be used toward the District program of his choice.
