HUSD Welcomes its New Deputy Superintendent of Business Services

Hemet Unified School District’s Governing Board approved Mr. Darrin Watters as the Deputy Superintendent of Business Services at the board meeting on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. The current Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Mr. Vincent Christakos, is retiring at the end of the month after nine years in his position with Hemet Unified and 25 years in education.

Mr. Watters joins the Hemet Unified team after serving the Val Verde Unified School District as the Deputy Superintendent of Business Services since 2013. Mr. Watters brings a breadth of knowledge to the position and is excited to join the Hemet team. Prior to his position at Val Verde Unified, he worked in the private sector as a consultant for California school districts on a variety of financial, facilities, and demographic challenges they faced.

Mr. Watters took a fairly unusual path to become a Deputy Superintendent of Business Services, but each position provided him with valuable experience. Originally Mr. Watters worked in the aerospace engineering industry before beginning his career in education. He started his educational career as a walk-on football coach before becoming a high school teacher. Despite loving the connections he made with students as a football coach and teacher, he became an Assistant Principal to affect more students throughout their educational journey.

Mr. Watters was then promoted from Assistant Principal to Assistant Superintendent of Business Services where he has overseen numerous construction and modernization projects that has affected thousands of students.

Congratulations to Mr. Vincent Christakos on his retirement and to Mr. Darrin Watters on his new position with Hemet Unified.
