HUSD Welcome Back Event

August 9, 2024 - Hemet Unified School District commenced the 2024-2025 school year with a remarkable Welcome Back Event hosted at the Soboba Event Center on August 9, 2024.
The event included approximately 3,800 attendees, divided into three sessions. Staff from across the district were transported to the Soboba Event Center, ensuring full participation in the event.

This year, the Welcome Back Event outgrew its traditional venue at a high school gymnasium, leading to the decision to utilize Soboba. This change not only accommodated the increasing number of attendees but also resulted in substantial cost savings by eliminating the need for additional audio-visual and chairs/seating contracts.

The event began with an inspiring opening by the West Valley High School NJROTC students, who led the audience in the flag salute and a moving rendition of the national anthem performed by two students. This set a meaningful tone for the day.

Dr. Derek Jindra, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, opened the event and led staff in a group cheer. Dr. Christi Barrett, HUSD's Superintendent, presented an overview of the history of the communities served by the District. She reflected on the District’s past, present, and future, offering insight into the progress and plans ahead.

A notable feature of the event was a 15-minute panel discussion where staff members from various positions shared their improvement efforts. This panel highlighted the ongoing enhancement work across the District, showcasing the collective commitment to educational excellence.

The student performances were a standout highlight of the day. The bands from Tahquitz High School, West Valley High School, and Hemet High School delivered impressive musical numbers. Additionally, the Elementary Choir group performed "Agents of Change," and a Ballet Folklorico performance celebrated the District's cultural diversity and the talents of its students.

The Welcome Back Event at the Soboba Event Center was a testament to the strength and unity of the HUSD community. As the 2024-2025 school year begins, the dedication and enthusiasm of both staff and students are evident. The District looks forward to a year of continued growth, learning, and achievement.
